Mozambique tilapia

Posted on December 30, 2025 by Admin

Here’s a Mozambique-style Tilapia recipe—bright, garlicky, a little spicy, and super flavorful 🇲🇿🐟
(It’s inspired by the famous peri-peri / lemon-garlic coastal flavors.)

Mozambique Tilapia (Peri-Peri Style)

Ingredients (serves 2–3)

Fish

  • 2 whole tilapia (cleaned) or 4 tilapia fillets
  • Salt & black pepper

Marinade / Sauce

  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2–3 fresh red chilies (or 1–2 tsp chili sauce)
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp oregano
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley or cilantro

Instructions

1. Marinate

  1. Mix garlic, chilies, lemon juice, olive oil, paprika, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  2. Score the fish lightly.
  3. Rub marinade all over (inside too if whole).
  4. Marinate 30 minutes (up to 2 hours).

2. Cook (choose one method)

🔥 Grilled (traditional)

  • Grill over medium heat 4–5 minutes per side until flaky and lightly charred.

🍳 Pan-fried

  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Cook fish 4–5 minutes per side until golden.

🔥 Oven-baked

  • Bake at 200°C / 400°F for 18–22 minutes.
  • Broil 2 minutes at the end for color.

3. Finish & Serve

  • Spoon extra sauce over the fish.
  • Sprinkle with parsley or cilantro.
  • Serve with:
    • Rice or peri-peri potatoes
    • Salad or grilled vegetables
    • Fried plantains or cassava

If you want, I can:

  • Make it less spicy
  • Turn it into coconut Mozambique tilapia
  • Give you a street-style version with crispy skin

Just say the word 😊
