🍛 Dirty Rice with Ground Beef (serves 3–4)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, finely chopped (any color)
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1–2 stalks celery, finely chopped (optional)
  • 2 cups beef or chicken broth (or water)
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp cayenne or chili powder (optional, for spice)
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • 2–3 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • 2 tbsp oil or butter

Instructions

  1. Cook the rice:
    In a medium pot, cook rice with 2 cups broth (or water) according to package instructions. Set aside.
  2. Cook the meat:
    Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown ground beef, breaking it into small crumbles. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add veggies & seasoning:
    Add onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic. Cook 4–5 min until softened.
    Stir in paprika, thyme, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
  4. Combine with rice:
    Add cooked rice to the skillet and mix well with beef and veggies. Adjust seasoning. Cook another 2–3 min for flavors to meld.
  5. Garnish & serve:
    Sprinkle with sliced green onions and serve hot.

  • Spicy Cajun: Add 1 tsp Cajun seasoning and hot sauce.
  • Cheesy: Mix in shredded cheddar at the end.
  • Vegetable-packed: Add peas, corn, or chopped mushrooms.
