Mashed potatoes

Classic and comforting 🥔 Here’s a simple, fluffy mashed potatoes recipe you can’t go wrong with.

Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 2 lb (about 1 kg) potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)
  • Salt (for boiling water)
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • ½–¾ cup milk or cream (warm)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Optional: garlic, sour cream, or cheese

Steps

  1. Prep potatoes:
    Peel (or leave skins on) and cut into even chunks.
  2. Boil:
    Place in a pot, cover with cold salted water. Bring to a boil, then cook 15–20 minutes until fork-tender.
  3. Drain well:
    Drain and let them sit in the hot pot for 1 minute to dry off.
  4. Mash:
    Add butter and mash until melted.
  5. Make creamy:
    Slowly add warm milk/cream, mashing until smooth.
  6. Season:
    Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm 😋

Easy Variations

  • Garlic mash: boil potatoes with 2–3 garlic cloves
  • Extra creamy: mix in sour cream or cream cheese
  • Chunky style: mash lightly and leave small pieces
