Cheesy beef puff pastry pockets

Posted on February 28, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a tasty recipe for Cheesy Beef Puff Pastry Pockets—crispy, golden, and full of savory flavor:

Ingredients (makes 4–6 pockets)

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 1/2 lb (225g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Optional: 1/4 tsp paprika or chili flakes for extra flavor

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven:
    • 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cook the beef filling:
    • In a skillet over medium heat, sauté onion and garlic until soft.
    • Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce, and cook until browned.
    • Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
    • Stir in the shredded cheese (reserve a little for topping if desired).
  3. Prepare the puff pastry:
    • Roll out the sheet on a lightly floured surface.
    • Cut into 4–6 equal squares (depending on size).
  4. Assemble pockets:
    • Place 2–3 tablespoons of beef mixture in the center of each square.
    • Fold the pastry over to form a triangle or rectangle.
    • Press edges with a fork to seal.
    • Brush tops with beaten egg and sprinkle reserved cheese if desired.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve hot with ketchup, mustard, or your favorite dipping sauce.

💡 Tips:

  • Don’t overfill the pockets, or they may leak.
  • You can add finely chopped bell peppers or mushrooms to the beef for extra flavor.
  • For a spicier version, mix in a little hot sauce or red chili flakes with the beef.

I can also give a shortcut version using pre-cooked beef or leftovers that takes only 15 minutes to prep. It’s a great quick weeknight option. Do you want that version?
