🍊 Orange Raisin Scones

Orange raisin scones are tender, slightly sweet baked treats with a hint of citrus and chewy raisins. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or tea time.

🧾 Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • ½ cup raisins
  • ½ cup milk (or heavy cream for richer scones)
  • 1 large egg
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Optional Glaze:

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1–2 tbsp orange juice

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat oven

  • Preheat to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2️⃣ Mix dry ingredients

  • In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

3️⃣ Cut in butter

  • Add cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or fingers to work until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

4️⃣ Add raisins and zest

  • Stir in raisins and orange zest.

5️⃣ Combine wet ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk milk, egg, and vanilla.

6️⃣ Form the dough

  • Pour wet ingredients into dry. Stir gently until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.

7️⃣ Shape and cut

  • Turn dough onto a floured surface, pat into a 1-inch thick circle. Cut into 8 wedges.

8️⃣ Bake

  • Place scones on baking sheet and bake 15–20 minutes until golden brown.

9️⃣ Optional glaze

  • Mix powdered sugar and orange juice, drizzle over warm scones.

🌟 Tips

  • Keep butter very cold for flaky scones.
  • Gently handle the dough to avoid tough scones.
  • Add a little extra orange zest to enhance flavor.
