1. Make the filling

  2. Gradually whisk in milk over medium heat.
  3. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture begins to thicken and bubble.

2. Temper the eggs

  1. Slowly whisk a small amount of hot milk mixture into the egg yolks to temper.
  2. Return egg mixture to the saucepan, stirring constantly.
  3. Cook 2–3 more minutes until thickened.

3. Add chocolate and flavor

  1. Remove from heat. Stir in chopped chocolate, butter, and vanilla until smooth.
  2. Pour filling into the pre-baked pie crust.

4. Chill

  • Refrigerate at least 4 hours, or until set.

5. Prepare topping

  1. Whip heavy cream with sugar until soft peaks form.
