🥩 🍖 Mississippi pot roast

Mississippi Pot Roast is a popular slow-cooked beef recipe known for its tender, flavorful meat and a rich, buttery, peppery gravy. It’s simple to make, often using just a few ingredients in a slow cooker.

🧾 Ingredients

  • 3–4 lb chuck roast
  • 1 packet ranch dressing mix
  • 1 packet au jus gravy mix
  • 4–5 pepperoncini peppers (with juice)
  • ½ cup butter
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Optional: garlic powder, onion powder

👨‍🍳 How to Make It

Slow Cooker Method

  1. Prep roast: Season chuck roast lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Place in slow cooker: Put roast in the slow cooker and sprinkle ranch and au jus mixes on top.
  3. Add butter & peppers: Place butter on top of roast and scatter pepperoncini peppers over it.
  4. Cook: Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4–5 hours, until meat is tender and falls apart.
  5. Shred & serve: Remove roast, shred with forks, and mix with juices. Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or rolls.

😋 Taste & Texture

  • Melt-in-your-mouth, tender beef
  • Savory, buttery, slightly tangy from pepperoncini
  • Rich, flavorful gravy

🔥 Variations

  • Spicy: Add extra pepperoncini or crushed red pepper flakes.
  • Slow cooker shortcut: Use pre-made shredded beef for faster prep.
  • Instant Pot version: Cook on high pressure for 60–75 minutes.
  • Vegetable addition: Add carrots, potatoes, and onions around the roast for a complete meal.

💡 Tips

  • Use chuck roast for best tenderness.
  • Don’t lift the lid too often while cooking—it slows the slow-cooker process.
  • Save extra juices for dipping rolls or over rice.
