🍽️ Easy Salisbury Steak (Serves 3–4)

Ingredients

For the patties:

  • 500g ground beef
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)

For the gravy:

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 1 cup mushrooms (optional but recommended)
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp butter or oil
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • Salt & pepper to taste

👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Make the patties
    Mix beef, chopped onion, breadcrumbs, egg, and seasonings. Shape into oval patties.
  2. Brown them
    Heat oil in a pan and cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Cook the gravy base
    In the same pan, sauté sliced onions (and mushrooms if using) until soft.
  4. Make the gravy
    Add butter and flour, cook for 1–2 minutes. Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps.
  5. Add flavor
    Stir in ketchup, salt, and pepper.
  6. Simmer everything
    Return patties to the pan. Cover and simmer for 10–15 minutes until fully cooked and tender.
