Here’s a classic American goulash—simple, hearty, and great for leftovers 🍝


American Goulash

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp oil (if needed)
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni (uncooked)
  • 1 can (28 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth or water
  • 1 tsp salt (to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Optional: 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Brown beef
    In a large pot, cook ground beef and onion until beef is browned. Drain excess fat if needed. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  2. Simmer
    Stir in tomatoes, tomato sauce, broth, and seasonings. Bring to a simmer.
  3. Cook pasta
    Add macaroni. Cover and simmer 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender.
  4. Finish
    Stir in cheese if using. Taste and adjust seasoning.

Tips & Variations

  • Extra savory: add a splash of Worcestershire sauce
  • Cheesier: top bowls with more cheddar
  • Veggie boost: add bell peppers or corn
  • Baked version: transfer to dish, top with cheese, bake at 375°F until bubbly
