🫘 Classic Baked Beans

Ingredients (serves 6–8)

  • 4 cups cooked navy beans or pinto beans (or 2 cans, drained)
  • 6 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp molasses
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven
    325°F (165°C).
  2. Cook bacon & onion
    In a skillet, cook bacon until just crisp. Add onion and cook until softened.
  3. Mix sauce
    In a bowl, whisk ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, mustard, Worcestershire, pepper, paprika, and salt.
  4. Assemble
    In a baking dish or Dutch oven, combine beans, bacon mixture, and sauce. Stir gently.
  5. Bake
    Cover and bake 1½–2 hours, stirring once. Uncover for last 20–30 minutes to thicken.
  6. Serve
    Let rest 10 minutes before serving.

  • Boston-style: More molasses, less ketchup.
  • BBQ baked beans: Use BBQ sauce instead of ketchup.
  • Spicy: Add diced jalapeños or cayenne pepper.
  • Crockpot version: Cook on low 4–6 hours instead of baking.
