Here’s a classic, hearty beef chili—rich, flavorful, and perfect for a cozy meal 🌶️🥩


🌶️ Classic Beef Chili

Ingredients (serves 6)

  • 2 lb (900 g) ground beef (80/20 works best)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (if needed)
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) kidney or pinto beans, drained & rinsed

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef
    In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain excess grease if needed.
  2. Sauté vegetables
    Add onion and bell pepper. Cook until softened (5–6 minutes). Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  3. Bloom spices
    Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, cayenne, salt, and pepper. Cook 1 minute.
  4. Build chili
    Add tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, and beef broth. Stir well.
  5. Simmer
    Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 45–60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Add beans
    Stir in beans and simmer another 10–15 minutes.
  7. Serve
    Taste and adjust seasoning.

  • Texas-style (no beans): Skip beans and add more beef.
  • Smoky: Add chipotle peppers or smoked paprika.
  • Sweet heat: Add a spoon of brown sugar or honey.
  • Extra rich: Add a splash of beer or coffee.

Cheddar cheese, sour cream, green onions, jalapeños, or cornbread on the side.
