That sounds amazing 😄 Here’s a Brown Sugar Bourbon Ham & Cheddar Melt—sweet, savory, and super comforting. (No alcohol flavor issues: the bourbon cooks off; you can also skip it.)
Brown Sugar Bourbon Ham & Cheddar Melt
Ingredients
- 2 slices bread (sourdough, brioche, or sandwich bread)
- 2–3 slices cooked ham
- 1–2 slices sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 tbsp butter (softened)
Brown Sugar Bourbon Glaze
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp bourbon (optional – can replace with apple juice)
- Pinch of black pepper
Steps
- Make the glaze:
In a small pan, melt butter. Stir in brown sugar and bourbon (or apple juice). Simmer 1–2 minutes until slightly thick. - Glaze the ham:
Add ham to the pan and coat it in the glaze. Warm for about 1 minute per side. - Assemble the sandwich:
Butter one side of each bread slice. On the unbuttered side, layer cheddar, glazed ham, then more cheddar. - Grill:
Cook in a skillet over medium-low heat until golden brown and the cheese is melted, flipping once. - Serve:
Let it rest 1 minute, slice, and enjoy 🥪
Optional Add-Ons
- Thin apple slices (great with cheddar)
- Dijon or honey mustard
- Caramelized onions
