Here’s a classic crumb cake recipe—soft, buttery cake with a thick cinnamon crumb topping. 🍰


Classic Crumb Cake

Ingredients

Crumb topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup melted butter

Cake

  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup melted butter (slightly cooled)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line an 8×8-inch pan.
  2. Make the crumb topping:
    Mix flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir in melted butter until big crumbs form. Set aside.
  3. Make the cake batter:
    In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
    Add milk, egg, vanilla, and melted butter. Mix until just smooth.
  4. Assemble:
    Spread batter evenly in the pan. Sprinkle the crumb topping generously over the top.
  5. Bake for 35–45 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the cake (not just crumbs) comes out clean.
  6. Cool slightly, then slice. Optional: dust with powdered sugar.

Tips

  • For extra crumbs, increase the topping by ½.
  • Add chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) to the crumbs if you like.
  • Serve warm with milk, tea, or coffee.
