Here’s a classic crumb cake recipe—soft, buttery cake with a thick cinnamon crumb topping. 🍰
Classic Crumb Cake
Ingredients
Crumb topping
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup melted butter
Cake
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 1½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup melted butter (slightly cooled)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line an 8×8-inch pan.

Mix flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir in melted butter until big crumbs form. Set aside. - Make the cake batter:
In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Add milk, egg, vanilla, and melted butter. Mix until just smooth. - Assemble:
Spread batter evenly in the pan. Sprinkle the crumb topping generously over the top. - Bake for 35–45 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the cake (not just crumbs) comes out clean.
- Cool slightly, then slice. Optional: dust with powdered sugar.
Tips
- For extra crumbs, increase the topping by ½.
- Add chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) to the crumbs if you like.
- Serve warm with milk, tea, or coffee.
