Always a win 🍫 Here’s a classic homemade brownie recipe—fudgy in the middle, crackly on top, and super reliable.

Easy Homemade Brownies (8–9 inch pan)

Ingredients

  • ½ cup (115 g) butter
  • 1 cup (200 g) sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup (35 g) cocoa powder
  • ½ cup (65 g) all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp baking powder (optional, for slightly less fudgy brownies)

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C / 350°F. Line a pan with baking paper.
  2. Melt butter (microwave or stovetop). Let it cool slightly.
  3. Mix sugar + butter, then beat in eggs one at a time.
  4. Stir in vanilla and cocoa powder.
  5. Fold in flour, salt, and baking powder just until combined.
  6. Pour into pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake 20–25 minutes
    • Toothpick should come out with moist crumbs, not wet batter.
  8. Cool before slicing (hardest step 😅).

Custom upgrades

  • Extra fudgy: bake 1–2 minutes less
  • Chewy: swap half the white sugar for brown sugar
  • Add-ins: chocolate chips, walnuts, or a swirl of cream cheese
  • Salted top: sprinkle flaky salt before baking
