Homemade vanilla sugar

Here’s an easy way to make homemade vanilla sugar 🌿

Ingredients

  • 1 vanilla bean
  • 1–2 cups granulated sugar (white or caster sugar)

Method

  1. Split the vanilla bean lengthwise with a sharp knife.
  2. Scrape out the seeds and rub them into the sugar with your fingers so they distribute evenly.
  3. Add the empty pod to the sugar.
  4. Store in an airtight jar and shake gently.
  5. Let it sit for at least 1–2 weeks for best flavor (you can use it sooner, but it gets better with time).

Tips

  • Shake the jar every few days to keep the vanilla evenly spread.
  • Once you use up the sugar, you can top it up with more sugar and keep using the same vanilla pod until it loses fragrance.
  • Works great in baking, coffee, tea, oatmeal, or sprinkling on fruit.
