Posted on December 28, 2025 by Admin

Pinto beans are a total staple 🌱—cheap, filling, and super versatile. Here are a few easy, tasty ways to use pinto beans, starting with a classic.

Simple Seasoned Pinto Beans (stovetop)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked pinto beans (or 1 can, drained & rinsed)
  • 1 tbsp oil or butter
  • ½ onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • ½ cup water or broth

Method

  1. Heat oil in a pan, sauté onion until soft.
  2. Add garlic and spices, cook 30 seconds.
  3. Add beans + water/broth.
  4. Simmer 10–15 minutes, mash slightly if you like them creamy.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning.

Popular ways to serve pinto beans

  • Refried beans (mashed with onion + spices)
  • Burrito or taco filling
  • Bean bowls with rice, salsa, and cheese
  • Soup base with tomatoes and veggies
  • Side dish with grilled chicken or beef

Cooking dried pinto beans (basic)

  • Soak overnight (or quick soak).
  • Simmer with onion, garlic, and bay leaf 1½–2 hours until tender.
  • Salt near the end for best texture.

If you want, I can:

  • Turn these into restaurant-style refried beans
  • Give a slow cooker or Instant Pot version
  • Make them Mexican-, Tex-Mex-, or Southwestern-style

Just tell me!
