Classic Pound Cake

Ingredients (8–9 inch loaf pan)

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • Optional: ¼ cup milk for extra moisture

Instructions

1. Prep

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour a loaf pan.

2. Cream butter & sugar

  • Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (~3–4 minutes).

3. Add eggs & vanilla

  • Add eggs one at a time, beating gently.
  • Mix in vanilla extract.

4. Add flour

  • Sift flour and salt.
  • Fold into batter gently (add milk if using for softer texture).

5. Bake

  • Pour batter into prepared pan.
  • Bake 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Cool in pan 10 minutes, then remove to wire rack.

Tips

  • Room-temperature ingredients = smoother batter.
  • Don’t overmix once flour is added—keeps it tender.
  • Optional: brush with simple syrup for extra moistness.

Variations

  • Lemon Pound Cake: add 1 tbsp lemon zest + 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Chocolate Marble: swirl ¼ cup melted chocolate into batter
  • Mini Pound Cakes: bake in muffin tins 20–25 minutes
