Salmon patties

Here’s a classic, easy Salmon Patties recipe—crispy outside, tender inside, and full of flavor 🐟🥔

Salmon Patties

Ingredients (makes 4–6 patties)

  • 1 can (14–15 oz) salmon, drained and flaked (or 1 cup cooked fresh salmon)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (or crushed crackers)
  • ¼ cup finely diced onion
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2–3 tbsp mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt)
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 2–3 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)

Optional add-ins:

  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley or dill
  • ½ tsp garlic powder or Old Bay seasoning

Instructions

  1. Mix ingredients
In a bowl, combine salmon, onion, breadcrumbs, egg, mayo, mustard, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and any optional herbs/spices.
    Mix until just combined.
  2. Form patties
Shape mixture into 4–6 patties (about ¾ inch thick).
Chill 10–15 minutes for easier frying (optional).
  3. Cook patties
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Fry patties 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and heated through.
Drain on paper towels if needed.
  4. Serve
Great with tartar sauce, lemon wedges, or a simple salad. Also tasty on a sandwich bun.

Tips & Variations

  • Crispier texture: Add extra breadcrumbs or cornmeal.
  • Oven-baked: Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 12–15 minutes per side.
  • Flavor boosters: Add chopped bell peppers, celery, or grated carrot.
  • Healthier option: Pan-sear with minimal oil or use an air fryer.

I can also give a “fancy restaurant-style” version with aioli and herbs that really elevates simple canned salmon. Do you want that version?
