Shepherd’s pie

Shepherd’s pie is a classic British comfort dish made with ground lamb and topped with mashed potatoes, then baked until golden.


🥘 What it is

  • Bottom layer: seasoned ground lamb
  • Middle: vegetables (usually onion, carrots, peas)
  • Top: creamy mashed potatoes
  • Baked until lightly browned on top

🔎 If it’s made with ground beef, it’s technically called Cottage Pie.


🍽 Basic Ingredients

  • Ground lamb
  • Onion, carrots, peas
  • Garlic
  • Tomato paste or Worcestershire sauce
  • Beef or lamb broth
  • Mashed potatoes (with butter and milk)

👩‍🍳 Simple Preparation

  1. Cook lamb with onion and garlic.
  2. Add vegetables, tomato paste, broth, and simmer.
  3. Spread mixture in a baking dish.
  4. Top with mashed potatoes (fork texture helps browning).
  5. Bake at 375°F / 190°C for ~20–25 minutes until golden.
