🍅 Homemade Tomato Sauce

🧂 Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2–3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 800g canned whole or diced tomatoes (or fresh peeled tomatoes)
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning
  • Optional: fresh basil or parsley for garnish

🔪 Instructions

1. Sauté aromatics

  1. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add onion and cook 3–4 minutes until soft.
  3. Add garlic and sauté 30–60 seconds until fragrant.

2. Add tomatoes

  1. Add canned tomatoes (with juice) and crush them with a spoon or potato masher.
  2. Stir in sugar, salt, pepper, and oregano.

3. Simmer

  • Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens and flavors meld.

4. Finish and serve

  • Optional: blend for a smooth sauce with an immersion blender.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
  • Use immediately, or store in the fridge up to 5 days or freeze for longer storage.
